Inter Milan: Why Nerazzuri are yet to part ways with Ebenezer Akinsanmiro

Inter Milan are yet to sanction the permanent departure of Super Eagles midfielder Ebenezer Akinsanmiro despite Pisa exercising a €7.5 million purchase clause in his loan agreement, Afrik Foot reports.

Akinsanmiro spent the just-concluded Serie A season on loan at Pisa, playing 24 games and emerging as one of the club’s standout performers despite their relegation to Serie B, so much so that the club were convinced to trigger the purchase option written into his loan agreement.

The 21-year-old joined the 2010 Treble winners NPFL side Remo Stars in January 2023 on a four-year deal. A loan spell at Sampdoria preceded his move to Pisa before he got a Super Eagles call-up, ultimately making Chelle’s AFCON 2025 squad.

Yet, despite Pisa’s willingness to make the deal permanent and Akinsanmiro’s own desire for clarity, Inter have not yet given the green light.

Why Inter Milan are stalling on Akinsanmiro’s departure

Inter’s hesitation is largely due to the turnover the squad might undergo after the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The €7.5 million purchase clause was built into the loan agreement by Inter as a floor, the minimum they would accept for a permanent sale, as per Tribal Football.

However, Chivu’s side are considering the possibility that the figure might be a significant undervaluation of the one-cap Super Eagles.

Additionally, Inter are building under their new project and are expected to undergo significant squad restructuring this summer, and while Akinsanmiro was never part of their first-team plans, the club’s technical department will want to ensure they are making the right long-term decision before permanently parting ways with the versatile midfielder.

For Akinsanmiro, the uncertainty is an uncomfortable but familiar position for a player who has spent much of his Inter career waiting for clarity on his next step.

The move to Serie B with Pisa, should it be confirmed, carries its own set of considerations. On one hand, it represents a step down from top-flight football, which is a concern for any player with Super Eagles ambitions.

Sesko arrived with huge expectations but needed time to settle into English football before showing encouraging signs under manager Michael Carrick.

According to reports from CaughtOffside, Osimhen is viewed as Manchester United’s preferred attacking target. The Nigerian international is coming off another productive campaign with Galatasaray, where he scored 22 goals and supplied eight assists across competitions.

United’s interest is understandable. Osimhen has consistently delivered goals at club and international level, while his pace, strength, movement and ability to perform in big matches have constantly caught the attention of top European clubs. While the Frenchman proved effective in the Premier League, Osimhen produced stronger numbers both domestically and in European competition, including several important Champions League performances.

Vlahovic, meanwhile, scored 10 goals and added two assists for Juventus. Although he showed flashes of quality despite limited playing time, injuries and squad rotation prevented him from matching Osimhen’s consistency and influence over an entire season.

A source close to the transfer situation of the winger told Footy-Africa that AC Milan, now under Ruben Amorim, values Chukwueze and considers him part of their rebuild.

“There is interest from Spain because he did very well in La Liga, but Milan will not sell him for just any price,” the Footy-Africa source confirmed.

The situation is similar for Burnley midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu. Born in France to Nigerian parents, he has steadily climbed through France’s youth ranks, representing the country at U-18, U-19, U-21 and Olympic levels.

Nigeria’s coaching staff have monitored the midfielder for several years because of his qualities in central midfield. His family has maintained strong Nigerian traditions, with his father revealing that his children were raised to speak Igbo.

Yet France again appear to hold the upper hand. Ugochukwu’s extensive involvement with French national teams has placed him firmly within the federation’s plans. As per reports from Haber 61, Trabzonspor are now in pole position to sign Cameroonian forward Aaron Bibout from Belgian side KRC Genk as a key reinforcement for next season.

The Turkish Cup winners had previously explored a move for Mallorca striker Vedat Muriqi, but the Kosovo international is now leaning towards a move to Fenerbahçe, forcing Trabzonspor to consider alternatives.

Genk are demanding a fee in the region of €10 million to €15 million before they can sanction a transfer this summer, with Trabzonspor not expected to have any difficulty matching their demands.

Although the Turkish club are currently leading the race, they face strong competition from Premeir League heavyweights Chelsea and will need to act quickly to reach an agreement with Genk.

Combined with the energy of new signing Cucurella, Madrid would become far more intense without the ball.

Another attraction is Osimhen’s chemistry potential with Bernardo Silva. The Portuguese playmaker excels at spotting runs behind defensive lines and creating chances in tight spaces. Osimhen’s movement, pace and finishing could make him the ideal target for Silva’s creativity, giving Madrid another attacking dimension.

Perhaps most importantly, Osimhen would offer something the current squad lacks: a dominant aerial threat. Against deep-lying defences, Madrid often struggled to find alternative routes to goal. Osimhen’s heading ability and physical presence inside the penalty area would provide a valuable Plan B when intricate passing moves fail to break opponents down.

The Barcelona challenge and why Real Madrid need more goals

The urgency behind Madrid’s rebuild became clear in the final La Liga standings. Barcelona retained the title with 94 points, eight ahead of Real Madrid’s 86. The Catalan club won 31 matches, scored 95 goals and secured the championship with three games remaining after a decisive 2-0 victory over Madrid in El Clásico on May 10.

While Madrid finished with 77 league goals, Barcelona managed 18 more, a pointer to the significant difference in attacking output between the two teams.
