Orlando Pirates recently confirmed the signing of four players ahead of the new 2026/27 season.

Mthetheleli Mthiyane came in from Stellenbosch FC, Richards Bay’s Sbangani Zulu Bohale Ngwato, and Ghampani Lungu – both from Siwelele FC. Furthermore, the Soweto giants have reportedly brought Siwelele duo Neo Rapoo and Aphiwe Baliti, while Golden Arrows star Siyanda Ndlovu is on his way as well.

Coach Abdeslam Ouaddou gave the green light for the club to release Thabiso Lebitso, Bandile Shandu, Sipho Mbule, Tshegofatso Mabasa, Karim Kimvuidi, and Deivi Miguel Vieira, who is commonly referred to as Gilberto.

“Orlando Pirates have completed the signing of exciting midfielder Matome Mmolai from Leicesterford City FC to further bolster their squad for the 2026/27 season,” FARPost reported.

“The skilful midfielder has penned a deal with Pirates and will be part of the squad undergoing routine medicals this week before kick-starting pre-season training.

In the mid 2025/26 season, Orlando Pirates signed Mpho Chabatsane and Daniel Msendami to bolster their squad.

The duo had done well for Marumo Gallants across all domestic competitions, explaining why coach Abdeslam Ouaddou went for their services. However, they struggled to get regular football as the tactician stuck with the players who had done the job already.

Bucs had won the MTN8 and Carling Knockout prior to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) break.

Even after the domestic football resumed, Ouaddou didn’t take risks as the Soweto giants won their first Premier Soccer League title in 14 years. Former Marumo Gallants coach Alexandre Lafitte has explained why he is convinced the two will eventually deliver.

“As for Daniel Msendami, he is a player with outstanding athletic qualities. He thrives on attacking space and running in behind defensive lines. His intensity makes him particularly dangerous, whether it is to hurt opponents late in games or to stretch defensive blocks with his runs in depth,” Lafitte advised.

“He still needs to improve his end product. He is capable of creating many opportunities for himself and for his teammates, but to reach the highest level, he now needs to convert those situations into better numbers in terms of goals and assists. That being said, he has genuine potential.

“Beyond their footballing abilities, both players are excellent individuals with great character. They have a very good mentality, and it was a real pleasure to work with them. South Africa take on South Korea in their final World Cup group stage match on Thursday looking for a win that will most likely seal their passage into the knockout round.

Bafana Bafana must win against the Asian giants in Monterrey as with one point, any other result would spell doom. South Korea, meanwhile, just need to avoid defeat to seal their ticket but would fancy their chances given a win would leave them at least second in Group A.

Winning the match will not be easy for coach Hugo Broos of South Africa and Hong Myung-bo of South Korea and they will need to get their sections and tactics spot on.

So, which players will likely make the difference for the two sides?

Bafana Bafana captain Ronwen Williams has been a mainstay in goal and at this World Cup, he has hardly got a foot wrong.

Blessed with pace, intelligence and ability to operate in tight spaces, Relebohile Mofokeng is the kind of player Bafana need to unlock defences and this game could suit him even more as South Korea will come out to attack, giving him time and space to get behind the defence to either score or create for his teammates.

Nicknamed the ‘Monster,’ Kim is the leader for South Korea at the back with his recovery speed, physical dominance, and ability to shut down counterattacks, bringing confidence and calmness in the team.

He is also an asset when attacking set-pieces and Bafana Bafana will have to watch him whenever South Korea get a corner or freekick.

“I think against Czechia we played a better second-half after the introduction of Mofokeng; why aren’t we starting with Rele? There is nothing like the stage is too big, or he’s small,” he said as quoted FARPost.

“Some of the countries are playing with 17-year-olds. This is the right time to play Rele, and this is the right platform for him to sell himself and go to bigger leagues in Europe. Throw him in the deep end; he has a bigger heart, he plays for one of the biggest clubs in the country, and he can take the pressure.

“Just show him that you believe in him,” Baloyi concluded.

Meanwhile, Mofokeng insists he has proven that by playing in the World Cup, he can deliver anywhere in any league. The Bucs star has been linked with a move to Europe in the summer.
