Zimbabwe’s veteran forward and former Kaizer Chiefs star Knowledge Musona struck at the perfect moment to salvage a 1-1 draw against Angola in their Africa Cup of Nations Group B encounter on Friday.
Angola had taken the lead in the 24th minute when To Carneiro’s deft chip unlocked the defence, allowing Gelson Dala to dart in and finish neatly at the near post.
But Musona, showing his trademark composure, equalised with the final kick of the first half, keeping Zimbabwe’s hopes alive.
Both sides now sit on a single point after two matches, meaning they face must‑win assignments in their final group fixtures next week to avoid early elimination.
Zimbabwe’s do-or die task against South Africa
“The Warriors show great character to fight back and secure a draw. Knowledge Musona’s brilliant strike earned Zimbabwe a share of the spoils as they dominated key moments in the second half. A point that keeps the Warriors’ momentum alive!,” ZIFA posted after Friday’s outing.
The next assignment for Zimbabwe will be on December 29 against the 1996 winners Bafana Bafana at the Marrakesh Stadium while Angola will be up against the Seven-time champions Egypt at the Adrar Stadium in Agadir.
ZImbabwe and Angola risk elimination from the competition after managing a point from their opening two outings. Eight third-placed teams will make the Round of 16, while eight teams that will fail to get needed results will be sent home.
Egypt and South Africa are among the teams that have been tagged as favourites to lift this year’s title.
