South Africa will play Cameroon in the Last 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) ongoing in Morocco.

The Indomitable Lions beat Mozambique 2-1 in their final Group F game on Wednesday night to set a date with Bafana Bafana who had finished second in Group A. Ivory Coast topped the group and will be up against Burkina Faso in the next phase.

Have a look at what South Africans said after the Bafana Bafana opponents were revealed, as sampled by AfrikFoot.

Cameroon are nothing

The match I have been waiting for to see what Hugo Broos is capable of, if he can beat Cameroon I will stop supporting Kaizer Chiefs and join Pirates –  Sydney Joshua Williams

Cameroon are nothing. Did you guys see how Morocco play? Those guys are super motivated and lightning fast. If we beat Cameroon and Morocco, we are winning AFCON –  DaVince Mphuthi

Although I made peace with our early return due to recent performance, the only positive is the body language of Cameroon players after they realised they would be facing Bafana Bafana, which was enough to give me a slight hope – Mogomotsi Proqnosiz

Exactly 30 years ago, in 1996, in the AFCON group stages, Bafana Bafana were with Egypt, Cameroon, and Angola. They won two games against Angola and Cameroon, won the last eight against Algeria, beat Ghana, and won the final against Tunisia. So we beat two West Africans and two North Africans. Bafana Bafana is winning Afcon – Velemseni Mthiyane

Ivory Coast were going to mop with Bafana Bafana, we really dodged a bullet here – EL Khraf Mafa

To be the best, you must beat the best. It’s not a train smash – N Jay Mtshali

History in the making; Bafana Bafana are not there just to add numbers but there to rewrite history, 2025 AFCON, we’re bringing it home, mark my words – Ram’s Ndaedzo Oscar Bryce

We played Cameroon in the 1996 AFCON and mowed them just as we were beaten by Egypt in the same tournament, which we ended up winning – Rosh George

South Africans be like, thank God for making us avoid Ivory Coast, the defending champions – L’InterNational Ivoirien

This is going to be an explosive match because both teams are deadly, like the one between Cameroon vs Ivory Coast. We can’t predict who will win the match, but I see them going for a draw in regular time, and the winner will be decided either in extra time or penalties – Ronald Bahingire
