Bafana Bafana are among the 24 teams that qualified for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) that will be played in Morocco from December 21 to January 18.

Hugo Broos’ men have been placed in Group B with record-champions Egypt alongside COSAFA duo Angola and Zimbabwe. The two top teams are guaranteed a place in the Round of 16.

In the 2023 edition, South Africa finished third as hosts Ivory Coast won the biennial competition and Nigeria came second.

When will Broos name his final squad?

CAF confirmed that national teams will be allowed to register 28 players instead of the traditional 23. For coach Hugo Broos, this expanded squad size is more than just a technical adjustment, it’s a lifeline for players still regaining sharpness.

While CAF will only cover logistics for 23 players, federations can choose to fund the additional five. This flexibility means Broos can include recovering stars without sacrificing squad balance.

The Belgian will now name his final squad on Monday. December 1. South Africans can follow the proceedings LIVE on SABC 2.
