A majority of Orlando Pirates fans were unhappy with Nkosinathi SIbisi after missing his kick in the 5-4 shootout loss to Casric Stars in the Nedbank Cup Round of 16.
While some believe Sibisi is among the best centre-backs in the Premier Soccer League, another section feels otherwise. But that did not stop coach Hugo Broos from including him in his Bafana Bafana squad to play Panama in international friendlies.

The first game between the nations will be at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on March 27 before they meet again four days later at the DHL Stadium in Cape Town.
In his interview with the media, coach Broos stood with the 30-year-old, explaining why the penalty miss doesn’t stop him from having the centre-back in his team. He further stated Sibisi is not the first player to miss from 12 yards and criticising him means ‘they don’t know anything about football.’
Bafana Bafana’s Broos slams Sibisi critics
“You know, being under pressure because you missed a penalty is the most ridiculous thing you can imagine. I mean, he took his responsibility as the captain of Pirates to take the penalty,” Broos said in a presser
“Okay, he missed it. He is not the first player to miss a penalty. Cape Verde missed five times against us. So, it was really ridiculous, and that shows again that social media is trash, it’s just trash.

“When you put someone under pressure and criticise him because he missed a penalty, then you don’t know anything about football,” he concluded.
South Africa are preparing for the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be co-hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada from June 11.
