Bafana boss Broos slammed for ignoring ‘fantastic’ Danish-based winger

Aarhus GF head coach Jakob Poulsen has expressed his surprise at the continued omission of winger Gift Links from the South African national team, Bafana Bafana, under manager Hugo Broos.

The former Cape Town City player has been a standout performer for the Danish club this season, contributing significantly with five goals and six assists in 27 appearances.

His impressive form was recently recognised with a spot in the Danish SuperLiga Team of the Week and a nomination for the league’s Player of the Month award.

Poulsen praised the winger’s exceptional abilities and consistent performances throughout the campaign.

“Gift has been fantastic this whole season. He is a crazy one-on-one player and has such fast feet and incredible speed,” Poulsen stated as per KickOff.

“From standstill positions, he can get away from his opponent every time. At the same time, he has a really good work rate, up and down the pitch; he’s a pleasure to have on my team.”

Links, who has not been called up to the national squad since 2021, remains on the sidelines, a decision that has left his club coach perplexed.

“I can’t understand it; I don’t know the South African national team that well,” Poulsen admitted. “But with the level he has shown over a really long period, I would be very surprised if they have three players who are better than him in that position.”

The AGF manager concluded with a firm endorsement, stating, “He should be in the national team without any doubt. There is no reason why he is not called up.”
