Kaizer Chiefs cult hero warns ‘over-confident’ Williams: Chaine is waiting

Kaizer Chiefs legend Itumeleng Khune has warned Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Ronwen Williams about over-confidence as seen in the game against Eritrea.

The 34-year-old was sluggish on several occasions only that the Red Sea Camels failed to take the half-chances gifted to them in the Group D’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier.

South Africa ended up claiming a 5-0 win in the fixture that was played at at Al-Salam Stadium, Egypt. The result ensured the Pitso Mosimane-led team are on top of the pool with maximum points, while Guinea, who beat Benni McCarthy’s Harambee Stars 1-0, come in second. Kenya and Eritrea have a point each.

The former South Africa international has advised Williams against underrating seemingly easier opponents and how that can affect him.

Yeah, it was a nervy start for Ronwen; even in the second half, I was a bit worried. I think sometimes he’s over confident, and that’s when he makes mistakes,” Khune opened up on SABC.

“So I think he needs to eliminate that because maybe he was taking the opposition for granted because at the end of the day, if you concede like that, I mean, there’s Sipho Chaine there waiting.

“Look at the other error, he wasn’t switched on. Instead of tipping the ball over, he gave them half a chance,” the 39-year-old added.
