‘They’ve got a good team!’ Struggling McCarthy warns Mosimane

Kenya coach Benni McCarthy has warned Bafana Bafana coach Pitso Mosimane that it will not be an easy outing away against Guinea in Conakry in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nationa (AFCON) qualifier.

In matchday one, South Africa beat the National Elephants 2-1 at the Orlando Stadium, which followed with a 5-0 victory away to minnows Eritrea in Cairo, Egypt which has seen them control Group D with maximum points.

Harambee Stars, who have already qualified as co-hosts alongside Uganda and Tanzania, drew 1-1 with the Red Sea Camels before falling 1-0 away to Guinea.

“I think their team [Guinea] is strong enough. I hope they learnt from their first match against Bafana Bafana. They lost, but they didn’t disgrace themselves. They’ve got a very good team, and Bafana have to come here to Guinea, and it’s not going to be easy,” the former Manchester United strikers’ coach stated in a presser..

“And I think Guinea has what it takes to have a good game, to beat South Africa, and it will be between those two. They are the strongest teams in the group. So if Guinea can return the favour by beating Bafana if they play them here [in Guinea], then they have a chance to qualify first,” he added.

Kenya and South Africa will meet in the qualifiers in November where McCarthy will have another opportunity to underline his worth as Kenya coach following a slow start in the pool.
