Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos is convinced Orlando Pirates star Patrick Maswanganyi will eventually deliver for the national team.
The former SuperSport United man has gotten a few opportunities to show what he is capable of doing for South Africa.
His most recent involvement was away against Congo Brazzaville in Group K of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier. Tito, as he is commonly referred to in Mzansi, was introduced late in the first half after Themba Zwane sustained an Achilles injury.
However, he did not make the desired impact as the two teams played to a one-all draw. Zwane has been irreplaceable at Bafana Bafana despite his advancing age, but Broos is optimistic the Buccaneers man can fit his shoes.
Tito can replace Zwane, have a little patience – Broos
“I don’t think Patrick did have a good opportunity, he was always coming into the game,” the veteran tactician told the media.
“It was not so easy to come in the game in Congo, because we suffered in that game and then it’s not easy for a team, for a player who plays his first minutes with the Bafana Bafana immediately to have an important role.
“So for him, it’s also a little bit to adapt on our way of playing, on what I’m asking from him, on that position,” Broos continued.
“So okay, we will see in the next games, and we will evaluate. But I’m still believing that he has the potential to replace Themba. He didn’t show it for the moment in Bafana Bafana, but okay, we will see.
“Have a little bit of patience, and maybe in a few months we have to say no or maybe yes, we will see.”
Maswanganyi is part of the Bafana squad that will play Uganda Cranes and South Sudan respectively in the forthcoming Afcon qualifiers.
