Kaizer Chiefs versatile defender Edmilson Dove has stated he is close to making his return to the team after an extended period on the sidelines.
The experienced Mozambique international suffered an injury during the Glamour Boys' pre-season in Turkey. The 30-year-old has since been out of action alongside former Orlando Pirates defender Bongani Sam who joined Amakhosi to bolster the left-back department.
In Dove's absence, Rushwin Dortley has been a rock in the left part of defense while Bradley Cross has been impressive at left-back.
When will Dove return to the Chiefs team?
Kaizer Chiefs defensive unit has experienced massive changes, especially at the back after the team finished 10th in the previous Premier Soccer League campaign. Apart from the aforementioned duo, Fiacre Ntwari is the new first-choice goalkeeper while Inacio Miguel has been partnering Dortley at the heart of the club's defence.
By the grace of God, I have been recovering well,” Dove told the club's media team regarding his return date.
“I have started running on the field, still doing functional work and strengthening. Hopefully, I will be soon back training with my teammates, featuring in games, and working myself back into the national team, which is something I will focus on once I'm fully recovered.”
Dove is ready to make the country proud at the 2025 Afcon
Mozambique is among the 24 nations that will be competing for Afcon title in Morocco and Dove has expressed the feeling.
“It's a huge pleasure for us to be able to qualify for a second time in a row to participate in a competition as huge as Afcon,” Dove continued.
“It's a moment of pride and also for the millions of Mozambicans that have been supporting us through thick and thin. They also deserve this moment.”
“We are excited about the prospect of playing at the Afcon tournament. It's a huge competition, and we are looking forward to the challenge.
“We will work hard to make sure we are well-prepared and make our country proud.”
