Chiefs legend wants Mofokeng out of Pirates – ‘Staying at a club for a longer period doesn’t help’

Relebohile Mofokeng has been linked with a move to many top clubs in Africa and overseas as well.

The Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana sensation has been ticking the right boxes since getting his chance at the club in the late 2022/23 season under former coach Jose Riveiro. The 20-year-old is now one of the key players for the Buccaneers, who are seemingly rebuilding around him.

However, there have been talks about the versatile attacker leaving for better teams, especially in Europe. While some fans argue that he is still too young to make such a move, Kaizer Chiefs and South Africa legend Lucas Radebe believes this is the right time for the youngster to leave.

“I think he’s ready [to go to Europe]; for me you don’t need five, 10 seasons in the PSL to be able to go. You know you need two great seasons like Rele is doing because they can improve. They can even do better. You know he can develop more easily at this stage, where he can go and as early as possible. That’s what we need,” the former defender told iDiski Times.

“I believe people like Siphiwe Tshabalala, people like Yeye Letsholonyane they could have gone overseas, our goalkeeper Itu [Khune], they could have gone a long time ago, but staying at a club for a longer period doesn’t help.

“For me, I believe they must go as young as they can,” Radebe concluded.

With the Sea Robbers hoping to challenge for the Premier Soccer League title and other domestic cups as well as making a statement in the Caf Champions League, it is interesting to see whether Mofokeng will be let go.
