Mamelodi Sundowns made a surprise move by signing Monnapule Saleng from Orlando Pirates in the January transfer window.
It was an unanticipated move that left fans with questions, especially on the Sea Robbers who were strengthening their direct rival. The South Africa international had fallen out with the Soweto giants which saw him go to play for Orbit College albeit on loan.

In his 13 games with the club, Saleng still managed to score two goals and provide three assists, explaining why Masandawana opted to have him on board.
However, since joining the Brazilians, Saleng has not yet made his debut owing to an injury he has been nursing. He is expected to be ready in a month or so according to initial reports.
Did Saleng make the right move?
Ex-Bucs winger Lebohang Mokoena, commonly referred to as Cheeseboy, who made a similar move, is expecting Saleng to get his mojo back at Chloorkop.
“I think from an individual observation, it is good,” he said as quoted by iDiski Times.

“Saleng has always said he wanted to play at a higher level with high quality teammates and he’s going to have that at Sundowns that has so many internationals.
“I see this as an opportunity for him to even make it back to the national team in time for the World Cup,” Mokoena added.

“It can only be normal that he was affected by his situation at Pirates, and it was evident in that he took some time to settle at Orbit,” Cheeseboy continued.
“He lacked game-time and took a bit of time to let go of Pirates, so he was still adjusting to a new environment.
“But to me, he looked like he was slowly getting back to his true self before he got injured. And then boom, the move to Sundowns was announced,” Mokoena concluded.
