Ex-striker – ‘Pirates cannot rely on Kwayiba’

Published on by

Former Orlando Pirates striker Katlego Mashego has a deep explaination as to why Sinoxolo Kwayiba is not someone the Buccaneers can heavily rely on.

Rumours are rife that the Bafana Bafana international is on the verge of a significant transfer, with a powerful connection being drawn to the Sea Robbers.

However, he still acknowledged the Chippa United star’s potential, saying the latter can improve at Pirates along the way.

Kwayiba was a prominent figure for Chippa United this season, making 26 appearances across all competitions and notably scoring 7 goals, complemented by a single assist.

‘HE’S NOT CLINICAL AS HE SHOULD BE’

“Though he's got energy, Kwayiba he is still a little bit raw, but he's got the ability and probably a chance to improve,” Mashego tells KickOff.

“So the only way to improve is for him to join the team of Orlando Pirates' stature. Playing alongside players who are at a high level, like Pirates players, will improve his game.

“He is a player Pirates can take a gamble with, he's got the potential. What he lacks can still be worked on, though, because he can get into good scoring positions.

“At the moment, for me, he is not clinical enough, his goalscoring ability is not there yet at the level where you can rely on him week in and week out.

“At his age, he is not as clinical as he should be, he should know where to calm himself to score goals. But whether he is ready or not can be found out once he joins Pirates.

“But at the moment, I don't think he can go to Pirates and immediately command a place in the starting line-up. He is not at the stage where he can come up with 15 goals in 30 games. Not yet.”
