The PSL finally unveiled the long-awaited Betway Premiership trophy on Sunday following Mamelodi Sundowns’ final league match of the season.
Sundowns beat Magesi 2-0 through Lucas Ribeiro’s brace and after their win, it was time to be crowned with the new trophy finally being unveiled.
The trophy, which looked heavy, was brought onto the pitch by its designer, the world-renowned South African artist, Nelson Makamo, who handed it over to the PSL.

It has a shape that resembles a tree with gold at the top and at the base where every team that has won it in the PSL era since 1996-97 has its name.
It is still not known the inspiration behind the trophy but it drew mixed reactions from fans on social media.
Insult to South Africans
“What an insult. Coming from the Castle and the last Absa trophies to this? Whoever designed this has no clue about sport, let alone football. This can't be the trophy. So, this ugly trophy took an entire season to create?” – @interviews84209
Disrespect to fans

“After all the donations we made to them, Betway took the whole season to design a hubbly bubbly trophy.” – @eemz_em
“The Betway Premiership Trophy unveiled….this is disrespect on another level.” – @visse_ss
“Betway must fire the person who designed this #BetwayPrem trophy. He doesn't respect our league. This is nonsense.” – @Khwezi_Lomso1
“There's absolutely no way that Betway loves our football, like what is this?” – @ErnieThulz
Underwhelming from PSL
“Calling the Betway Premiership trophy ‘terrible' would be an understatement. It’s truly underwhelming for a league of this stature.” – @u_bhekani
Better second place than this trophy
“If that's the trophy, Sundowns can keep winning the trophy. We Orlando Pirates [are] okay to occupy the second spot until eternity.” – @BetwayQueen2

Good Chiefs did not win
“I’m glad Chiefs decided not to win the league. What an ugly trophy.” – @ChifhiwaMawela
