Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Thabo Cele has opened up about how he dealt with being frozen out of the team at Kaizer Chiefs.
Cele was dropped from the squad at Naturena and omitted from the travelling party when they went for pre-season in Spain and when they returned, coach Fernando a Cruz made it clear that the player was not in his plans.
The 28-year-old had to train alone before his contract was terminated and Sundowns pounced immediately, signing him on a free transfer.
Cele won his first trophy with Sundowns on when he came on as a late substitute in their 2-0 win over Orlando Pirates in the MTN8 final on Saturday.

“For me, it’s always been the same thing to keep on working hard, focus on myself, forget the distractions that are outside,” Cele said on how he kept himself busy during that tough time as quoted by iDiski Times.
“Since growing up, when I was young, I always wanted to find myself and work to be in this kind of position. So, me being here, it’s massive and also a motivation to go to the next level.”
Reflecting on his short stint at Sundowns, Cele was grateful that he joined such a quality team.
“It’s a blessing to be part of this team because it’s a team that’s always, you know, looking for more,” he added.
“And today, we went in the game looking to win the final because it’s been a while since we won this MTN8. So, yeah, it’s a blessing to be part of this team.”

Letsholonyane started his spell with a 2-0 loss last weekend but bounced back to win 2-1 against Township Rollers with former Baroka midfielder Mpho Kgaswane and Botswana international Gilbert Baruti on target for Chiefs.
“Coming back from a loss last week. It’s a good result for us,” Yeye, whose club are in fifth position in the standings, told the club’s media.
“Have we arrived? No. We are still far from saying we have arrived, but it’s a good result for us.
“We did not really play the way we wanted to for long periods, but it’s a work in progress. We will get there at some point.”
