Confirmed changes for Kaizer Chiefs fixtures

Kaizer Chiefs’ fixture with Stellenbosch FC, which was scheduled for October 17, has been moved due to their continental commitments.

Chiefs will instead play Zambian side Red Arrows in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary round in Ndola on October 17.

Amakhosi have had several fixture adjustments since the start of the 2026/27 Betway Premiership season, with venue changes affecting Amakhosi supporters’ travel plans.

The most recent change saw the Betway Premiership clash between Lamontville Golden Arrows and Kaizer Chiefs relocated from Durban to Mbombela.

Abafana Bes’thende had originally been set to host Amakhosi at King Zwelithini Stadium on Saturday, 19 September, but the match was moved to Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit on Sunday, 20 September at 15:00.

Earlier in the season, Chiefs’ away trip to Richards Bay was also moved from Moses Mabhida Stadium to Princess Magogo Stadium in KwaMashu, north of Durban, for their Round 4 clash on 26 August.

‘Stevie G’ backed for first-team breakthrough

Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs DStv Diski Challenge coach Vela Khumalo has backed youngster Steven Mendes, popularly known as ‘Stevie G’, to make the step up to the senior squad following an outstanding COSAFA U20 Championship campaign with Amajita.

Mendes was instrumental in South Africa’s title-winning run and their qualification for the 2027 U20 Africa Cup of Nations.

The midfielder finished as the tournament’s leading scorer with six goals, earning the Golden Boot after converting a key penalty in the final against Mozambique.

The highly rated youngster returned to Amakhosi after a spell with Swedish club Hammarby Fotboll and is now part of Khumalo’s DDC squad.

Khumalo described Mendes as a special talent who is destined to make a significant impact in the game.

“With the Mendes story, everybody’s talking about that. He’s a special player,” Khumalo said, as quoted by iDiski Times.

“He’s a top player, he’s going to make it big. I think he has grown in stature. He’s very talented. It’s just a matter of time, he will also be knocking or being identified by the coaches to remain in the first team.”
