Kaizer Chiefs news, as striker Wandile Duba receives the backing of those inside the camp ahead of a long-awaited MTN8 return and Ashley Du Preez and Given Msimango’s departures confirmed.

Duba backed as Chiefs’ man for the big occasions

With Kaizer Chiefs preparing for their first MTN8 fixture in three years, striker Wandile Duba has received strong backing from within the club as a player built for the big stage.

Amakhosi last featured in the MTN8 tournament back in September 2023, when they were knocked out in the semi-finals by Mamelodi Sundowns, who won 3-2 on aggregate. That campaign ended with Chiefs finishing tenth in the Betway Premiership — the worst league finish in the club’s history — and they missed out on the top eight for a second consecutive season.

However, a much-improved 2025/26 term saw the Glamour Boys clinch third place on the log, which has set up a quarter-final clash against sixth-placed Golden Arrows. Duba, who scored a brace in the season-opening victory over Kruger United at the weekend, is widely seen as a key figure heading into the encounter.

The 22-year-old has already proven his ability to deliver when it matters most, having scored in last season’s Nedbank Cup semi-final victory over Sundowns en route to ending the club’s decade-long trophy drought. With 60 career appearances and nine goals to his name since breaking into the first team, Duba’s combination of pace, movement and big-match temperament has made him a firm favourite among the Khosi faithful ahead of Friday’s showdown.

Chiefs confirm Du Preez and Msimango exits

Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed the departures of defender Given Msimango and striker Ashley du Preez to Stellenbosch FC.

Msimango, who joined Chiefs from TS Galaxy ahead of the 2023/24 season, made a strong impact during his time at Naturena. The 29-year-old international featured in 53 official matches across all competitions, bringing leadership and consistency to Amakhosi’s backline.

Du Preez, also 29, returns home to Stellenbosch having spent four seasons with Chiefs after being signed from the Winelands Club in July 2022, and going on to register 19 goals and 6 assists in 96 appearances for the Glamour Boys. His performances in the league earned him a few caps for the South African national team, Bafana Bafana.

Both players were moved on as part of the deal that brought Langelihle Phili to Kaizer Chiefs with cash also involved.
