Kaizer Chiefs new signing Elias Mokwana has revealed what prevented him from joining the club much earlier.

Mokwana completed his move to Amakhosi on Tuesday, two years after he was heavily linked with the club, during his stint at Sekhukhune United.

The winger opted to join Tunisian side Esperance from Sekhukhune in 2024 but lasted one season before he was sent out on loan to Al-Hazem of Saudi Arabia last season.

Having joined Chiefs as a free agent, Mokwana admits it was always his dream as he is a supporter of the club.

“I grew up supporting Amakhosi. I first heard that they were interested in me when I was at Sekhukhune. Instead of going to Esperance, I was supposed to come here, but unfortunately some obstacles prevented it from happening at the time,” Mokwana told the club’s website.

“I was sitting with my sisters, and the first thing I did was phone my mother to share the good news with her.

“I can’t explain the feeling exactly. I’m excited. It’s a very nice feeling. This is a good place with good people, and I am very happy to be here.

“For me, it is a dream come true. I have always wanted to prove myself in this team and to play a part in bringing some trophies to the club.”

Da Cruz shares Chiefs’ January transfer plans

Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs coach Fernando da Cruz insists his team will be careful in the transfer market and look only at players who add something different.

Da Cruz has seen the club bring in experienced winger Elias Mokwana and he is looking for more reinforcements in January.

“We have time, because we still have two months of competitions before January. As a club, we don’t want to recruit just to recruit, we’re looking for players to add value into the squad, it’s very important,” Da Cruz said as per KickOff.

“We know that in some positions we have a lack of experience and we need experienced players to help our talented players, to grow, to develop, being with them everyday in training and in the games.”
