Mamelodi Sundowns defender Mosa Lebusa has told his team-mates not to make a mistake of underestimating Magesi FC in their Carling Knockout final.
Sundowns face Magesi in the final with the trophy at stake at the Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein on Saturday and the Brazilians are considered overwhelming favourites to secure victory.
However, Megesi coach Clinton Larsen has expressed confidence in pulling off another shock result, after beating Orlando Pirates, TS Galaxy and Richards Bay on their way to the final, and Lebusa has called on his team-mates to give the newly-promoted team the respect they deserve.
“I think it will be suicidal of us to think that they’re a small team,” Lebusa told the media as per iDiski Times.
Why is Lebusa wary of Magesi?
“Them being in the final speaks volumes so we have to give them respect, we have to acknowledge that because they are in the final.
“We have to respect them at the same time not to neglect the quality that we have. We [are] going there guns blazing and [to] make sure that we put the hand on the throat.”
Sundowns had an impressive run to the final, starting with a 5-0 win over Golden Arrows, before thrashing Kaizer Chiefs 4-0 and eliminated Marumo Gallants in the semi-finals following a 2-0 victory.
The PSL champions are looking for their first Carling Knockout trophy since 2019 while Magesi hope their fairytale run can end with a first time.
