Desiree Ellis’ side arrive off the back of a narrow 2-1 quarter-final defeat to hosts Morocco, with Thembi Kgatlana’s second-half strike offering some encouragement even as Banyana’s automatic World Cup qualification hopes ended. Ellis will again lean on Kgatlana up front, with Hildah Magaia, Linda Motlhalo and Noxolo Cesane offering further attacking options, while captain Refiloe Jane and goalkeeper Kaylin Swart anchor the side.

Nigeria, meanwhile, arrive with their own frustrations after a 1-0 quarter-final loss to Cameroon despite dominating possession and creating a flurry of chances. The historical record favours the Super Falcons, but South Africa have shown they are no longer intimidated by Africa’s most successful women’s side, beating Nigeria 2-1 at the 2022 WAFCON and holding them to a goalless draw during the 2024 Olympic qualifiers.

Victory here would not send either side directly to Brazil 2027, but it would keep the winner’s World Cup ambitions alive by securing a spot in the inter-confederation play-offs.
