Former Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi has shared insights into his relationship with his former colleague, Rulani Mokwena.
The duo worked together at Sundowns for several years, initially under Pitso Mosimane and later as co-coaches.
Mngqithi also served as an assistant coach when Mokwena was appointed as sole head coach following the restructuring.
Mngqithi described their relationship as one of a “big brother and younger brother,” characterized by honesty and open communication.
He revealed that he would always be upfront with Mokwena, even when addressing difficult topics.
Both coaches have experienced changes in their roles at Sundowns.
Mokwena was m appointed as the head coach of Wydad Casablanca following the Brazilians exit in June, while Mngqithi was relieved of his duties at Sundowns recently.
MNGQITHI DESCRIBES RELATIONSHIP WITH RULANI MOKWENA
“Rulani joined us when we were working with Pitso [Mosimane] and we were sharing the same office at the time and we had a very good relationship, then we moved to the new building, and we got different offices,” Mngqithi told Marawa Sports Worldwide.
“The relationship between me and Rulani I would look at it as a big brother and a younger brother relationship. Which for me is beyond just being coaches of the same club because I would advise him when I feel this might not come up right, you must look at it this way.
“I’ve always treated him like that, and I’ve always been fair and honest to him that relationship I think it’s at that level.
“The only thing I can tell you about that is that he still respected me as his senior, there was never any issue in that regard where I would say I felt disrespected.
“I have never had that situation because if I had, whenever there’s something I am uncomfortable with I’m that type of a guy I go straight to you.”
