In the ongoing 2024/25 Premier Soccer League campaign, young players have been given a chance to prove their worth.

Relebohile Mofokeng has never looked back since late 2022/23 campaign when Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro gave him a chance as a then an 18-year-old. In the ongoing campaign, Mohau Nkota has been introduced in the senior-team setup.

Kaizer Chiefs have the likes Wandile Duba, Mduduzi Shabalala, Mfundo Vilakazi have also been doing well. Neo Rapoo and Ime Okon are some youngsters who are excelling at SuperSport United.

Club NXT attacker Shandre Campbell is delighted with the development of youngsters in South Africa. The highly-rated winger sealed a move to Belgian outfit Club Brugge at the beginning of the season after his impressive showings with the Swanky Boys in the initial edition. He scored five goals and provided six assists for the Swanky Boys.

Good to see coaches believing in youngsters

“It’s good [to see young players in the Betway Premiership]; it shows that our generation has good and disciplined players. I’m happy that Rele is doing well as expected,” the 19-year-old told Far Post.

“Vilakazi, Duba, Shabalala, Rapoo, and Okon, all of them are superstars and players with good hearts. I’m happy that they get to showcase their talent on the pitch, and their respective coaches believe in them.

“That’s what you need nowadays, to have coaches who believe in youngsters and that will help us go a long way,” Campbell concluded.

The South African has five goals for his Belgian team from eight appearances across all competitions.
