Orlando Pirates news, as head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou urges restraint over a talented youngster while expressing his concerns despite the season-opening win. 

 

Ouaddou: ‘Don’t burn this talent’

Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has called on the media and those around the club to exercise caution in their handling of young midfielder Camren Dansin, according toiDiski Times.

Dansin, 21, made 16 appearances for the first team last season after being promoted from the DStv Diski Challenge squad, and won the Betway Premiership Goal of the Season award for his memorable strike against Mamelodi Sundowns.

The youngster started alongside Thalente Mbatha in the Buccaneers’ 2-0 opening-day win over Milford, delivering an efficient performance across the 90 minutes — completing 36 of 40 passes, creating two chances and winning 10 ground duels.

Despite the bright start to the new campaign, Ouaddou was measured in his assessment of the teenager’s prospects, stressing that the club has a long-term plan in place for his development.

“We have to be very careful, I have been in the business for a while but the boy is doing well — we took time to bring this young talent in,” Ouaddou said. “You remember last season, I didn’t hesitate to put him in a very big game against Sundowns, and he scored a fantastic goal.”

The Pirates coach added: “We have detected the talent, but you don’t have to burn this talent, it’s step by step — people didn’t understand why it took so much time to bring him, but we knew what we were doing.”

Ouaddou’s message was directed squarely at outside noise that could derail the youngster’s progress before he is ready to handle elevated expectations.

“I want to be very cautious about the media, about us, not to put this boy quickly high because a career is long,” he warned. “Dansin will meet a lot of humility — not to listen to what people say outside the environment because he can quickly lose himself and we’re here to help him.”

Meanwhile, the Pirates coach was not happy by a number of things from his team’s win, admitting that they were let off the hook by the newly-promoted side.

“I think it’s something we have to fix quickly because I cannot say that this team put us in trouble. I think we made mistakes and we gave them opportunities to score, but thank God we didn’t concede a goal but we could’ve conceded a goal,” he said as quoted by KickOff.

“And I think it’s something we have to fix quickly and to find back our serenity our calm, you know we’re Orlando Pirates and I expect that sometimes we stress too much and if we want to play at the high-level and be ambitious again for the title and Champions League again we need to have more stability.”
