Orlando Pirates starlet Mofokeng gets high praise from Kaizer Chiefs fan Siya Kolisi

Springbok captain Siya Kolisi has showered praise on Orlando Pirates youngster Relebohile Mofokeng who continues to impress for the Buccaneers.

Kolisi is a Kaizer Chiefs fan but has sought to express his delight in the talents of the 20-year-old Pirates winger, who has been one of the most talked about young players in South Africa.

Mofokeng has eight goals and 11 assists for Pirates this season, a run of form that has seen him linked with a number of top clubs such as Barcelona, and Kolisi feels he represents so many talented athletes who have overcome the odds to succeed at the highest level.

“It’s amazing I am already hearing people overseas are interested in him,” Kolisi told fans on AmaFansWethu channel just before Pirates lost 4-1 to Mamelodi Sundowns at the Loftus Versfeld on Saturday.

“That is what we want, it is why PSL is so special. PSL is special because it creates platforms for all of us who come from backgrounds that there was no way you thought these opportunities would come.

“It also shows once you take your opportunity, once you have been given, how hard he is working.”

The two-time Rugby World Cup winning captain says he is itching to see what Mofokeng can do in the national team, especially with Bafana Bafana set to feature at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in December.

“You also going to say, what Pirates have done is good because he is obviously where he is so I am proud of him and I can’t wait to see what he can do in a Bafana jersey,” added Kolisi.

“We are going to see what he is going to do there and hopefully he can chip in,” said the Sharks rugby star.

Mofokeng did not enjoy a good game against Sundowns but it does not take away what he has done for Pirates this season as he is one of the reason Jose Riveiro’s team have been able to mount a title challenge, make it to the CAF Champions League quarter-final and win the MTN8.
