Kaizer Chiefs’ new winger, Langelihle Phili, has expressed his immense pride after a standout performance in the club’s tense 1-1 draw with Mamelodi Sundowns last weekend.

The 21-year-old, who joined the Glamour Boys from Stellenbosch FC this month, has quickly become a key figure in the team’s strong start to the league season.

The speedy attacker was named Man of the Match in a 2-0 victory over Sekhukhune United and followed that up by scoring the opening goal in the hard-fought stalemate against Masandawana.

With Chiefs currently sitting second in the Betway Premiership standings, level on seven points with defending champions Orlando Pirates, Phili is delighted with his flying start to his Amakhosi career.

Phili on how Chiefs are making him thrive

“For me to represent Kaizer Chiefs is an honour and a privilege, and being able to help the team is a testament to the people within the Club and the organisation who have welcomed me with open arms,” Phili said during an interview with the Chiefs website.

“They have provided me with the environment to give something back through doing my best and putting in good performances.”

“Obviously, being at such a great football institution as Kaizer Chiefs you want to play in the big games, so being able to play and score against Mamelodi Sundowns, the African champions, was huge for me, as could be seen from my celebration,” he further stated.

Team objectives over individual accolades

Despite his personal success, the winger remains focused on the team’s objectives and his own development.

“Still, my overriding aim is to help the team in any way possible,” he added.

“To maintain my form consistently, I must just keep listening to the coach and the technical team, learning from my teammates, and just keep trying hard every day to become a better version of myself.”

Phili also shared his appreciation for the warm reception he has received from the supporters.

“It’s the best feeling ever to be loved by supporters. When I arrived at the club, my priority was to earn the love of the fans. I’ll keep on trying to please them through maximum effort, which is something they appreciate,” the forward said.
