Orlando Pirates vs Magesi: Preview, prediction, line-ups, where to watch

Published on by Nkosiyabuya Sithole, updated on

Orlando Pirates aim to continue their unbeaten run and cup dominance in the 2024/25 season.

Fresh from their MTN8 triumph over Stellenbosch FC, Pirates will face Magesi in the Carling Knockout. This will be their first match since securing their fifth trophy under coach Jose Riveiro, who has transformed the club since his arrival in 2022.

While Pirates have dominated cup competitions under Riveiro, the Carling Knockout remains the one title that has eluded them. Last season, they were surprisingly eliminated in the quarterfinals by Richards Bay on penalties.

For Magesi, this is their debut in the Carling Knockout as a newly promoted PSL club.

Head-to-head

This will be the first encounter between Orlando Pirates and Magesi. The two teams will face each other again later in the season, in both the first and second rounds.

Form guide

Pirates have been in exceptional form this season, winning nine out of 11 matches across all competitions. Their confidence is sky-high as they aim to dominate all competitions.

Magesi, as newly promoted to the Betway Premiership, have a mixed record with one win, one draw, and two losses in their four league matches.
