Richards Bay vs Kaizer Chiefs: Preview, team news and head-to-head record

Published on by

Kaizer Chiefs will be in action on Tuesday away to Richards Bay in the Premier Soccer League, the only trophy they can win after elimination from the Nedbank Cup and the CAF Confederation Cup.

The Natal Rich Boys welcome the Soweto giants at the uMhlathuze Stadium, as they continue working on the top eight finish.

Recent Form and Head-to-Head Record

In the last six games, Richards Bay have been winless in regulation time, but needed penalties to eliminate Siweleel from the Nedbank Cup, but fell in the next phase to Amazulu.

The Natal Rich Boys have two losses and a draw in their last three games.

Amakhosi have lost three outings in a row, and four out of the last five which was not anticipated by their fans. Last weekend’s 3-0 defeat to Orlando Pirates in the Soweto derby is the most heartbreaking.

In the head-to-head record, Kaizer Chiefs, who are fifth on the table with 30 points, have three wins in the last five meetings while their opponents have two. The Tuesday hosts are 12th having collected 20 points from 18 games.

What They Said

Papi Zothwane Richards Bay

“One we are playing against a very big team that has just lost two [PSL] games in a row, and obviously they want to bounce back, but they can’t bounce back at our expense.

“The last time we won at home was against AmaZulu in December, so we want to win. We’re expecting a very difficult match, not knowing who they are going to play because of their last performance against Pirates, but we are ready.

“The players are ready because they know what is expected – we are on 20 points and we want to go to 23 points, so yeah, it’s going to be a tough match but, as a team, we are all ready for the match.

“Preparation for Chiefs is not one of the best because yesterday it was for travelling and today it’s only recovery, and tomorrow we are playing the match,” – Papi Zothwane, Richards Bay coach.

“In football there not many ways things, only to go back to work, give confidence to the players, to show them that what has worked before and I feel like three weeks ago we were on a very good run, but the last three weeks we’re starting to get into very dangerous moments.

“We need to pick our heads up, to have leaders, players who are leading, showing up and showing the way – and to work and swallow that pill [of losing the derby] and go forward,” Cedric Kaze, Kaizer Chiefs coach.

Team News, and Probable XI

No injuries or suspensions for Zothwane, meaning he will have a wide pool of players to make his selection.

However, it is not the same case with Amakhosi who are expected to be without Etiosa Ighodaro, George Matlou, Rushwin Dortley and most probably Inacio Miguel who was subbed in the loss to Bucs.

Zitha Kwinika is also suspended.

Where To Watch

“Unfortunately for Chiefs supporters in KwaZulu-Natal, tickets for Tuesday’s match sold out quickly, just as it happened in the Soweto Derby, with many eager to catch a glimpse of the Glamour Boys, who have never played in Richards Bay before,” Chiefs said in a statement.

“Fans without tickets can follow the action live on SuperSport’s Channel 202 on DStv at 19:30, with commentary on various SABC radio stations,” they concluded.
