South Sudan vs Bafana Bafana: Preview, line-up, time & where to watch

Published on by

After a sluggish start to their AFCON qualifiers, South Africa will be looking to bounce back with a convincing victory over South Sudan on Tuesday.

Hugo Broos's side opened their campaign with a 2-2 draw against Uganda at home, a result that fell short of their target of maximum points from their opening two matches.

Head-to-head

This will be the first encounter between South Africa and South Sudan in their footballing history.

Form GUIDE

Following their impressive showing at the AFCON in Ivory Coast earlier this year, Bafana have experienced mixed results. They drew friendlies against Algeria and Andorra in March

They also played to a 1-1 stalemate against Nigeria and secured a 3-1 win over Zimbabwe in the World Cup qualifiers in June.

The Bright Stars, meanwhile, have endured a difficult 2024. Their last victory came in a friendly against Kenya last September, and they suffered a defeat to Congo Brazzaville in their opening AFCON qualifier.

This match presents an opportunity for Bafana to build momentum and solidify their position in the race for AFCON qualification.

Hugo Broos to ring changes

The Belgian tactician said there will be changes on Tuesday as they try to find a solution from their performance against The Cranes on Friday.

“We will try to find a solution on Tuesday… and certainly not starting to doubt this one or that one but you can be sure there will be changes in the team that’s for sure,” Broos said after the Uganda clash.

“It’s not a nice thing for a goalkeeper when he makes that mistake [referring to Mothwa's error, where he couldn't handle Roger Mato's shot that ended up a goal from nowhere] and OK it's 1-1 but and as a keeper, you know what you did wrong and we could have lost the game with that.”
