Bafana Bafana are scheduled to leave Mzansi for Morocco on Wednesday, five days before the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
South Africa have been placed with COSAFA duo Angola and Zimbabwe, alongside the seven-time champions Egypt. Hugo Broo’s men are scheduled to play Ghana’s Black Stars onTuesday in their final build-up game before leaving for North Africa for the biennial competition.
They will open their campaign on December 22 against Angola in Marrakech before logging horns with Egypt in Agadir four days later. Their final Group B game will be with Zimbabwe in Marrakech on December 29.
In the 2023 edition, the national team defied the odds to win bronze as hosts Ivory Coast won the competition and Nigeria finished second.
Bafana Bafana tipped to go all the way
Ahead of the competition, former Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi is convinced Bafana Bafana can go all the way and win the biennial competition after finishing third in the previous one.
“We must always root for this team because it has done so well over the past few years,” he told the media.
“They have been playing good football, I must say, also congratulations to coach Broos for taking the team there. It’s the second time in a row, and that’s something for me.
“We can only wish that after getting a bronze, you always want to climb the ladder and even jump silver sometimes to go straight to Gold. I wish them all the best, and I believe they selected a very good team,” the Golden Arrows coach concluded.
