Mind games and tactical talk dominate as Africa’s elite prepare for two blockbuster clashes in Tangier and Rabat.

The Africa Cup of Nations semifinals are here, and the tension is palpable. On Wednesday, four of the continent’s biggest football nations will battle for a place in the final but before a ball is kicked, the coaches have already set the tone with bold statements and subtle digs.

Senegal vs Egypt – 17:00 CAT, Grand Stade de Tanger

Egypt head coach Hossam Hassan praised the rising standard of African football while warning that the smallest details could decide the clash.

“The quality of players in this tournament has been incredible — not just the experienced stars but also youngsters with match-winning ability,” Hassan said.
“Every team has weaknesses, and we’ve studied Senegal in depth. They’ll be analysing us too, so this game could come down to fine margins.”

Senegal boss Pape Thiaw acknowledged Egypt’s defensive strength but insisted his side is ready to rise to the occasion.

“Egypt plays excellently and knows how to defend, but we play in a balanced way and hope to show our best performance,” Thiaw said.
“Salah and Marmoush are outstanding players, but we’re facing the entire Egyptian team. We respect them, but we’re determined to advance.”

Morocco vs Nigeria – 20:00 CAT, Complexe Sportif Prince Moulay Abdellah

Nigeria coach Eric Chelle admitted Morocco’s home advantage comes with pressure but expects an open, high-quality contest.

“Morocco is a great team, and being hosts brings enormous pressure,” Chelle said.
“Regragui is a top coach with exceptional players. All I hope for is a match worthy of both teams, may the best side win.”

Morocco’s Walid Regragui urged his players to stay grounded despite the historic achievement of reaching the last four for the first time in 22 years.

“We spent a lot of energy against Cameroon, and there are things to improve,” Regragui said.
“We haven’t done anything yet. Moroccans deserve this moment, but we need to keep our feet on the ground and make it even more historic.”
