Percy Tau and Egyptian giants Al Ahly have been entangled in a strenuous relationship since mid-last season.
The Bafana Bafana international fell out with coach Marcel Kohler and at some point, the club considered compensating the player and let him leave in the short January transfer window.
Despite his situation, the 30-year-old versatile attacker has been playing his part when given a chance. In the ongoing campaign, the South African has played 13 games across all competitions, scored three goals, and provided an assist.
He came as a substitute in the game Caf Champions League game against Khanyisa Mayo's CR Belouizdad, scored and assisted as the Red Devils claimed a 6-1 win to go top of Group C.
Tau is one of the best
The former Mamelodi Sundowns attacker was rewarded with a start in the Premier League away against Al Masyr which the defending champions won 2-0.
Mohamed Emara, who played for the club between 1996 and 1999 in the first stint before his second one between 2002 and 2004, now believes Tau has once again shown his worth for the team.
“I reject Percy Tau's departure from Al-Ahly, and I hope the South African player will continue in the Red Castle for the next year because he is a very influential player,” the now 50-year-old told On Sport FM.
“Percy Tau is one of the best players in Al-Ahly, along with Hussein El-Shahat and Mohamed Magdy Afsha, and we must keep him and not let go of his services.”
With the short transfer window just around the corner, it will be interesting to see whether Tau will be retained. His current deal expires at the end of the season.
