Kaizer Chiefs’ messiah? Amakhosi finally confirm Nasreddine Nabi’s appointment

The Tunisia tactician has been unveiled by the Glamour Boys, ending weeks of speculation

Kaizer Chiefs have finally confirmed the appointment of Tunisian coach Nasreddine Nabi.

Amakhosi let out one of the worst kept secrets in South African football when they announced the arrival of the experienced tactician who linked up with the team in Turkey for pre-season.

“We are delighted to welcome coach Nasreddine Nabi to the Kaizer Chiefs family. We are happy to have you with us, coach,” Chiefs said of their new appointment.

Nabi arrives just days after ditching Moroccan club FAR Rabat, who he managed for one year, and came close to winning the league and Throne Cup, both of which he eventually lost to Raja Casablanca.

Nabi has the big job of restoring Chiefs’ pride and stature

The former Yanga coach has now been tasked with restoring the Glamour Boys at the top of South African football after falling off in recent years.

Amakhosi recorded their worst finish in the PSL when they limped to 10th last season under the stewardship of Calvin Johnson and began a search for a new coach immediately after.

After weeks of negotiations, they finally settled on Nabi who was allowed to leave the Moroccan side having been attracted by the Chiefs project.

Chiefs first approached the Tunisian coach one year ago

His arrival will now see Chiefs swing into action as far as their transfer business is concerned after putting everything on hold until he was installed.

Nabi has been on Chiefs’ radar since 2023, when the club first approached him to take over ahead of the recently-concluded season, but talks broke down at the time after the two parties did not agree over the makeup of his backroom staff.

Chiefs finally agreed to allow him bring in his own men this time and he will join the Soweto giants alongside his backroom staff.
