Appollis’ AFCON heroics explained in a nutshell by former English Premier League star

Former Polokwane City winger Oswin Appollis played a pivotal role as Bafana Bafana secured maximum points against Angola in Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Group B fixture played on Monday evening.

The Orlando Pirates man scored the first goal of the game thanks to an assist from Lyle Foster before Show equalised for the opponents. The Burnley star then scored the winning goal which was a reward of neat passing between him and Tshepang Moremi.

However, Appollis caused all types of problems the same way he has been doing in favour of the Sea Robbers who have won two titles this season, and are leading the race for the Premier Soccer League title.

Coach Abdeslam Ouaddou explains why the winger is ticking all the right boxes at both the club and national team level.

Appollis’ good form explained

“He is a very interesting player, his centre of gravity is very low. He has a very good technique and has an ability to move between the lines with the small steps,” he told SuperSport TV.

“He also has the capacity to see before receiving the ball. That is very important,” the former Fulham defender concluded.

Meanwhile, the 24-year-old explained how he combined with Foster for a crucial opener against Angola.

“That is what I do,” Appollis jokingly said on SuperSport TV when asked about the goal. “It was a nice goal you know.. I shouted at Lyle to leave the ball and he left it to me and I just took a touch inside,” said the Orlando Pirates winger, who drilled an unstoppable right-footed finish into the bottom corner.

The duo is expected to start on Friday as the 1996 winners play seven-time champions Egypt.
