‘Appollis scored with a move Polokwane taught him! How could you do this & kill me?’ Mohafe

Oswin Appollis was the tormentor in chief as defending MTN8 champions Orlando Pirates eliminated Polokwane City after claiming a 2-0 win on Saturday afternoon at the Orlando Stadium.

The Bafana Bafana international converted Boitumelo Radiopane's pass after just 12 minutes, before being fouled in the 33rd minute to give the Buccaneers a penalty. Patrick Maswanganyi held his nerves to score the second one to ensure his team got a comfortable lead.

Appollis ended up getting a deserved Man-of-the-Match Award thanks to his display in his first competitive game for Bucs, coincidentally, against his former team Rise and Shine. Polokwane City coach Phuti Mohafe then sent a jab to the South Africa international, claiming that it was a move sharpened at Rise and Shine.

‘It is the move we taught him at Polokwane'

“He scored against us. To me, it’s the move we taught him at Polokwane City, and he did it perfectly against us. It doesn’t sit well with me. How could you do this with this massive move, and you kill me?” He said during his post-match interview.

“But it’s fine, we taught him well and he chose progress.”

Appollis is expected to fill the void left by another Bafana Bafana international Mohau Nkota, who was recently signed by a Saudi Arabian outfit, Al Ettifaq. His display will also come as a relief for Relebohile Mofokeng, who was solely relied on last season to deliver for the Buccaneers.

When he was off colour, the team struggled, especially in the Premier Soccer League.
