Tanzania international Feisal Salum – who is commonly referred to as Fei Toto, has been a hit in the Tanzanian Premier League.
The 26-year-old delivered for Young Africans from 2018 to 2022 before Azam FC signed him at the beginning of the 2023/24 campaign. He played a crucial role in helping his team finish behind champions Yanga SC to qualify for the Caf Champions League.
The attacking midfielder scored 19 goals in the previous campaign with several assists on his name. Soweto Giants Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly chasing the Taifa Star.
Fei Toto to Kaizer Chiefs?
The Tanzanian recently helped Taifa Stars to secure their spot in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Afcon. It explains why Simba SC have also been linked to the experienced player as they continue sharpening their squad.
Prior to leaving Wananchi for Azam, Salum was under the current Glamour Boys tactician Nasreddine Nabi.
Azam spokesperson Hashim Ibwe has since explained Amakhosi links, “We can confirm that there have been no discussions between Kaizer Chiefs or any club and Azam FC regarding Feisal Salum,” he said as quoted by Far Post.
“He remains under contract with Azam FC and respects the club, which we appreciate.”
Were Sundowns chasing Salum as well?
Initially, the midfielder was linked with Mamelodi Sundowns but assistant coach Bruno Ferry refuted the claims. “What I see, honestly. I see a player who’s happy to be in Azam to play in this championship,” he told the same platform.
“I don’t see that he doesn’t have ambition [to move in future]. But I think for the moment, he is fine where he is, you know.
“Sometimes, it’s important to find a good path for yourself and your career, so you should have ambition. I think he has ambition, but maybe he’s waiting for the right moment to sign somewhere else. But there’s nothing at the moment, nothing that I know.”
