Bafana Bafana defender Olwethu Makhanya has been feted for his fine start to life at Scottish giants Ranger FC, having been named the Player of the Month for September.
Makhanya joined Rangers from MLS club Philadelphia Union in the summer transfer window and has not needed time to adapt to life in the Scottish Premiership.

The 22-year-old was part of a Rangers defence that kept four clean sheets in five matches as the club claimed five wins in September with his performances a delight to watch.
Since signing for the club, Makhanya has not put a foot wrong, earning plaudits from his coach, while already becoming a fan favourite so early in the season.

Bafana star speaks after monthly award
“I am really proud to receive this award, and I’d like to thank my teammates and all the staff for their support,” Makhanya stated as quoted on the Rangers website.
“They have helped me settle in and feel part of the group, and that makes a big difference when you come to a new club. The coaches are helping me improve every day, and my teammates give me confidence on the pitch.

“I’m pleased to have been able to contribute to the team,” added the South African centre-back.
It was a Rangers double as head coach Derek McInnes was also voted Coach of the Month for September.
Makhanya was part of a solid defence
“We had a fantastic run of results before the international break, and the players deserve great credit for their efforts too,” said McInnes. “We want to keep building on that and are looking forward to returning to Scottish Premiership action this weekend.”

Rangers started September with a 2-1 victory away to Falkirk, before a 1-0 win at Ibrox against Motherwell. Days later, Bojan Miovski scored the winning goal against St Mirren, before an impressive 3-0 victory against Celtic at Ibrox in the Premier Sports Cup.
McInnes’ team completed the month with a 1-0 league win against old enemy Celtic at Parkhead, earning the bragging rights in the first Old Firm derby of the season.
Makhanya and his Rangers teammates have a chance to continue their fine this weekend when they face off with Kilmarnock on Saturday.
