The tactician, who has been in the European country since 2003, has lauded the transfer
Belgium-based South African coach Masilo Modubi feels youngster Shandre Campbell, who recently signed for Club Brugge, will be a huge success in the country.
Campbell swapped SuperSport United for Belgium after a brilliant season in the PSL when he was among the nominees for Young Player of the Season.
Modubi, who has been in Belgium for 21 years, is confident that the 18-year-old will thrive in the European country because he went there at the right age.
“It’s a good move because he came to Belgium at the right age,” Modubi told FARPost.
“At this age in Europe, you can learn and adjust to a lot of things, mostly the weather, the pace and that’s important. At that age, it’s easier to adapt and to learn.
‘Belgium is a state park for players’
“I always say Belgium is a state park for players. If you look around the world, how many players have started in Belgium and are now on top of the world in the big leagues.”
However, Modubi has warned Campbell about getting complacent once he gets to grips with the demands of his new surroundings.
“The passion, why you started playing football. The reason for playing football. What drives him and hard work. Being open to learning and being mentally strong, especially knowing that you are away from home. There are a lot of factors that play in,” he added.
Campbell urged to embrace Cristiano mentality
“Being fit and, most importantly, it’s the desire. Not being too relaxed and continuing to be consistent and working hard. Even when things go well, be hungry and want more and more.
“That’s mostly our downfall as African players. We get to Europe and do well. We get that small achievement, and we start to relax, thinking we are there. So, I think for him it will be important to have that Cristiano Ronaldo mentality, to work hard.”
Campbell, who signed a three-year contract, will start at Club’s Brugge’s second string side and is set to feature in the Challenger Pro League, the country’s second tier next season.
