Manchester United are set to release South Africa legend Benni McCarthy once his contract as the strikers' coach expires at the end of June.
The 46-year-old has been working with manager Erik Ten Hag at Red Devils since the 2022/23 season when he signed a two-year contract.
However, according to the Athletic, there have been changes in the technical team of the English giants, and McCarthy is among the coaches who have been affected. His current deal expires on Sunday which will also mark the end of the relationship between the involved parties, according to The Athletic.
Man United make McCarthy decision
Initially, the former forward confirmed his desire to make it back as the head coach of any interested team.
“Benni McCarthy will leave his position as a first-team coach when his two-year contract expires at the end of this month,” the publication confirmed.
“It’s understood that the lifelong United fan wants to be a manager again. McCarthy had a positive relationship with many of the United players and enjoyed his time at Old Trafford.”
The South African played a crucial role in helping the Premier League team win the League Cup and the FA Cup during his time at Old Trafford. His role might be filled by the Red Devils legend Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Before Kaizer Chiefs settled on Nasreddine Nabi, McCarthy had shown his interest insisting ‘he can't say no to an institution.' The situation has now changed at Naturena who had made massive steps in their bid to restructure.
What are the options for the former Orlando Pirates striker?
McCarthy is not new to coaching having worked at Cape Town City and AmaZulu in the Premier Soccer League and other teams.
In 2013, he was part of the Hibernian coaching staff where he worked under Alan Stubbs. Two years later, he did a short internship program at Sint-Truidense that was managed by Yannick Ferrera.
Cape Town City appointed McCarthy as their coach in 2017, guiding them to MTN8 glory before being dismissed after a poor run that saw him win just two games out of the 18 played. It did not stop Usuthu from appointing him as the head of their technical team.
McCarthy delivered at AmaZulu; he helped them finish second in the Premier Soccer League for the first time in their history and further helped them reach the group stage of the 2021/22 Caf Champions League group stage.
With his quality, McCarthy surely will not miss potential suitors.
