Bafana Bafana legend Benni McCarthy has reportedly decided to include former Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs into his backroom staff in Kenya.
McCarthy’s appointment as Harambee Stars coach is drawing closer with reports indicating that he will arrive in Nairobi on Wednesday before he is unveiled on Friday on a two-year deal that will likely see him lead the nation to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations which they will co-host with Uganda and Tanzania.
The 47-year-old has also been working on his backroom staff, which will include some Kenyan coaches, as well as his own picks and among them is former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Josephs, who played with McCarthy at Orlando Pirates.
Josephs turned out for the Buccaneers between 2008 and 2013 before moving to Bidvest Wits and then AmaZulu but that was after he had played with McCarthy when South Africa’s leading scorer returned home in 2011.
What will be Moeneeb Josephs’ role in Kenya?
McCarthy played for Pirates for two seasons, helping them win the PSL in the 2011-12 season, their last title, as well as the MTN8 and Telkom Knockout.
“Moeneeb Josephs will join Benni McCarthy in Kenya as the goalkeeper coach of the Kenya national football team,” SoccerBeat posted X

Josephs is a regular on SoccerBeat where he offers insights on the PSL and South African football in general and is also known to be close ally of McCarthy.
Josephs will be tasked with improving Kenyan goalkeepers, who include Richards Bay’s Ian Otieno, with the Harambee Stars yet to find a reliable shot stopper given former coach Engin Firat kept chopping and changing between the posts.
