‘Big-mouth’ Broos faulted for Bafana’s Mokoena saga – ‘Harsh Hugo always fighting Lesotho’

Published on by

Bafana Bafana coach, Hugo Broos has been accused of having ill intentions against Lesotho by the country's Football Association Secretary General Mokhosi Mohapi.

The two teams recently met in Group C of the 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifier staged at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane. Goals from Relebohile Mofokeng and Jayden Adams were enough to hand South Africa maximum points.

However, the inclusion of Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Teboho Mokoena in the team that played the Crocodiles has generated a very wide discussion.

The midfielder had already picked up two yellow cards in the previous engagements, meaning he was suspended for the March 21st game.

Lesotho have been asking the world football governing body Fifa and Caf to act by deducting the points accumulated by Bafana Bafana, but haven't filed an official complaint. Lesotho FA administrator argues Broos has been belittling The Crocodiles.

Bross, ‘harsh and loud-mouth’?

“Hugo Broos has been harsh in terms of what he said about us as a nation and as an association,” Mohapi said as quoted by FARPost.

“So they [SAFA] have never said anything despite having to tell them on numerous occasions that this guy [Broos] is always fighting us at any given opportunity.

“All they said [SAFA] is that he’s a loud-mouth, so we want to see if the loud-mouth knows the regulations. I mean he’s been saying that he doesn’t know why there’s an organisation called Lesotho Football Association and why the team exists in FIFA competitions, he’s been saying that,” Mohapi concluded.

Bafana Bafana claimed maximum points from their last two matches which puts them on 13 points in Group C, five more than second-placed Benin and Rwanda.
