Defending Carling Knockout Champions Orlando Pirates have learned their Round of 16 opponents alongside Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns and the other Premier Soccer League teams.

The Soweto giants beat Marumo Gallants 2-0 in the final to be crowned and this season, the Abdeslam Ouaddou-led Bucs will start their journey against newbies Milford FC at the Orlando Stadium.

Last year’s finalists Marumo Gallants have a massive task as they will be away to Loftus Versfeld Stadium to face the CAF Champions League holders Masandawana, hoping to defy the odds and advance.

Nevertheless, all eyes will be at the FNB Stadium where inconsistent Amakhosi will host struggling TS Galaxy. After falling in the quarter-final of the MTN8 versus Golden Arrows, the Glamour Boys hope to deliver in this competition.

Ouaddou happy to play at home

Bucs coach Ouaddou is delighted that the fixture will be staged at home which gives his team an advantage.

“Before speaking about defending the title, I would like to thank the organisers [of the Carling Knockout Cup]. It’s always a pleasure and a fantastic competition to play,” he stated.

“I really like the innovation of creating the bridge between fans and the clubs. I think it’s really a good idea. About the game, I think the advantage and the positive is to play at home.

“Playing in front of our fans is an advantage, but it will be a difficult game. If you remember when we played Milford in the first game of the season, I said that not many teams are going to beat them.

“So I think they have a lot of confidence; it’s a well-coached team, they are disciplined and organised, and they can run as well. So it will not be an easy game.”
