Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Cedric Kaze has revealed their plan on the club’s left-back Bongani Sam after returning from injury.

The left-footer played a few minutes during the Home of Legends Cup tournament which was held at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth this past weekend.

Amakhosi defeated Mamelodi Sundowns 4-3 on penalties in the final to lift the trophy.

Sam played for the first time since he signed for the Soweto giants during the off-season.

He has been on the sidelines after picking up an injury during the team’s pre-season camp in Turkey.

Kaze says they gave the defender a few minutes because they didn’t want to rush him since he just came back. They want him get enough fitness before they give full matches.

KAZE SAYS THEY DON’T WANT TO RUSH SAM

“Bongani Sam has been injured for quite some time and we didn’t want to rush him into a lot of minutes,” Kaze explained.

“We want to give him minutes gradually. He played between 15 and 20 minutes this morning [Saturday]. We felt this is just the beginning, we will keep working on him as everyone else.”
