Chiefs’ Chivaviro warns former team – ‘I will be at work’

Kaizer Chiefs striker Ranga Chivaviro has warned his former team Marumo Gallants that he will not spare them on Saturday when they meet in the Premier Soccer League outing.

Chivaviro scored 17 goals in 30 matches for Gallants across all competitions in the 2022/23. Despite helping them reach the semi-final in the Caf Confederation Cup with his seven goals, the club failed to keep their top-tier status in Mzansi and ended up suffering the axe.

This season, they bought Moroka Swallows slot in the PSL, and as fate may have it, they will be up against their former forward.

‘It is my former team but I will be at work'

The 31-year-old is expected to start against Gallants and he insists he will be on the pitch to do his work as expected.

“I wouldn’t say it will be an emotional game, I am a professional,” Chivaviro said ahead of the season's opener.

“Yes it’s my former team and like you said I scored 17 goals for Marumo but I was at work and so is the case right now, I’ll be at work.

“The Kaizer Chiefs fans are the biggest stakeholders of his club, the more the merrier, the more they come and supporters, the more they give us the morale and boost to do well.”

‘We owe Kaizer Chiefs fans!’

In his debut season, Chivaviro scored just four goals for Amakhosi, but in pre-season, he has already scored six goals.

The forward hopes he will be rewarding the Glamour Boys' faithful in the new campaign, “Playing for Kaizer Chiefs there will always be expectations, and what we want to say to the fans is that we wanna be doing better than last season, they will be watching beautiful football and accompanied by good results,” he added.

“We owe [the fans] so much, we’re preparing to make them happy this season, we’re conscious of where we were last season. For a club like Chiefs, we should be up there.”
