Kaizer Chiefs cult hero completes surprise transfer to PSL rivals

Former Kaizer Chiefs academy star Njabulo Blom has detailed his reasons for joining Stellenbosch FC on a season-long loan from Indonesian Super League club Borneo Samarinda.

The Cape Winelands team announced the midfielder’s arrival on Friday morning, a move aimed at strengthening their options in the centre of the park.

Stellenbosch confirmed that all necessary paperwork for the transfer was completed before the September 22 deadline.

The two-cap Bafana Bafana international has since arrived in the Western Cape to begin his tenure with the Maroons.

Before signing with Borneo Samarinda on July 28, 2026, the 26-year-old was strongly linked with a move to Stellies after leaving Vietnamese club Nam Dinh FC. However, a deal did not come to fruition at that time.

Blom, who also has experience in Major League Soccer (MLS) with St. Louis City, explained what drew him to Gavin Hunt’s squad.

“I’m excited to be here and to start this journey in a new environment,” Blom told the club’s media team. “I’m looking forward to the challenge and building relationships with my new teammates. I will do my best to help the team and see what we can achieve together.”

“Stellenbosch is a professional and well-run club, and players who have played here in the past have enjoyed success, so I felt that it was a good environment for me to grow and to play competitive football again,” he added.

The club has confirmed that Blom will wear the number 35 jersey for the season. The midfielder could make his debut against his former side, Kaizer Chiefs, when the two teams face off in a Betway Premiership match on Saturday, October 17, 2026.
