Kaizer Chiefs lose highly-rated star to Stellenbosch

Stellenbosch FC have continued their recruitment drive by signing promising young talent Gopolang Taunyana from Kaizer Chiefs, marking their third acquisition from the Soweto giants in the current transfer window.

The Cape Winelands club had previously announced the arrivals of Given Msimango and Ashley Du Preez in a swap deal that saw winger Langelihle Phili move in the opposite direction to Naturena.

The club has now further strengthened its roster with the permanent signing of Taunyana, a 20-year-old South Africa youth international.

The midfielder is a product of the Chiefs’ development academy, where he gained a reputation as one of the nation’s most exciting young players.

In his first interview with the club, Taunyana expressed his excitement and conviction that Stellenbosch is the perfect environment for his career progression.

“First and foremost, I want to thank my Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, for the opportunity, because I am very excited to join Stellenbosch FC,” Taunyana told the club’s official website. “This is a team that is well known for development and having great facilities and coaches, so I’m grateful to be here.”

“Growing as a player and a person is the most important thing for me, and I felt that this was the right step for my career and the right environment for me to grow. This is an environment where a lot of players have shone in the past, so I’m excited to go on that journey now as well.”

Taunyana will wear the number 21 jersey for the upcoming season and may not have to wait long for his senior debut. Stellenbosch FC confirmed that the new signing is in contention for their Betway Premiership clash against Polokwane City on August 11, giving him an immediate chance to make his mark.
