Chiefs’ losses, a ticking time bomb? ‘When you win ugly…’

Kaizer Chiefs were undone by Stellenbosch on Tuesday night in their race to win the Premier Soccer League title.

Having lost back-to-back games against Stellies, in Cup competitions, the Glamour Boys supporters anticipated victory to complete a double, after beating them 2-0 in the initial PSL assignment. Playing at the FNB Stadium in frot of thousands of home fans was also going to be a massive boost for Amakhosi.

However, the Gavin Hunt-led men recovered from Flavio Silva goal to get maximum points courtesy of Lengelihle Phili and Devin Titus’ strikes.

It was the third time in four games, across all competitions, that the Soweto giants were suffering a defeat. Following elimination from the Nedbank Cup and the CAF Confederation Cup respectively, chances of ending the season trophyless are high.

Anticipated defeats by stakeholders?

According to the former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye, the Glamour Boys were not convincing in their initial wins, and the defeats were forthcoming.

“When you win ugly, you’ll lose games in a row. Kaizer Chiefs games when they were winning 1-0, 1-0 and 1-0, to me it was not convincing,” he said as quoted by iDiski Times.

“A team that plays against Kaizer Chiefs is not scared. If you play against players at Kaizer Chiefs, I don’t think you can be scared.

“Players at Kaizer Chiefs also need to take responsibility. I mean there are mistakes that they make like that ball [Ashley] Du Preez missed. You can’t play for Chiefs and always want to point fingers at the coach,” Khanye concluded.

On Saturday, Kaizer Chiefs host Orlando Pirates in ther Premier Soccer League’s Soweto derby to be staged at the FNB Stadium.
