Chiefs signing concedes he is nervous ahead of tough Al Masry test in CAF CC

Kaizer Chiefs are back in CAF Inter-Club competitions after several years in the cold owing to the domestic struggles.

Last season, they won the Nedbank Cup which handed them an automatic ticket for the CAF Confederation Cup. They then got past Angolan outfit Kabuscorp and later AS Simba to make the group tage.

The Glamour Boys are in Group D alongside Zamalek SC, Zesco United and AL Masry. On Sunday, they will be playing the latter in Suez hoping for a positive start to motivate them and encourage the players ahead of a tough fixture against Zamalek at the FNB Stadium.

One of the players who is expected to feature prominently is Asanele Velebayi who joined the team at the beginning of the season. The 22-year-old is anticipating a tough outing, but is sure his teammates will help him deliver as expected.

Al Ahly-like Al Masry pose a challenge to Amakhosi

“Obviously, it’s a big moment for me, it’s my first time travelling in Africa, to Egypt. I know it’s going to be a difficult one but I’m looking forward to it,” the former Cape Town Spurs winger told the media.

“I’ve watched the [Egyptian] league before and I know it’s difficult but we are looking forward to it as a team. Obviously, for me I’ll be honest, I’m a bit nervous. But with the guys in the team who are experienced like Bvuma and all the guys who have played in Africa before have been helping me closely. I trust them,” Velebayi added.

“For us, the first thing is not to concede. Obviously, we are going for the three points, but not conceding will put us in a better place. So, the main thing for us is to win but we don’t want to concede as well.

“We have watched them [Al Masry], they are a top team. To be honest, I think they are on the same level as Al Ahly. You know Al Ahly are a top team, so it is going to be difficult. We have watched the videos the whole week, we have been preparing and we know it is going to be difficult,” he concluded.
