Orlando Pirates confirmed the signing of Sipho Mbule, who was a free agent following the expiry of his contract with Mamelodi Sundowns.
Initially, the 27-year-old had been heavily linked with Kaizer Chiefs, but it seemed the Glamour Boys were not keen on having him in their squad for the 2025/26 season. Baroka FC coach Dan Malesela insists it was a mistake that the Glamour Boys did not go for the lanky midfielder.

He argues that Mbule will deliver at the Sea Robbers and hit back at critics for being quick to judge players when they slip.
“It's a great signing for Pirates. I was surprised because Chiefs dropped the ball on this one. They missed out big time, as they don't have a player like that at the moment, and they really need someone like him,” Malesela said as quoted by SNL24.
‘Mbule stands out because he is a true talent'
“Chiefs have always been known for having tricky players like Doctor Khumalo, but currently, they lack someone as creative as Sipho Mbule.
I think it's a major win for Pirates. They just need to get him to toe the line. There are many players in our league who might have similar issues, but Mbule stands out because he is a true talent.

“These [off-pitch] concerns can be addressed. I'm worried about how quickly we judge players when they face challenges rather than trying to help them. We all deserve a chance in life. Why shouldn't he be given one, especially when he is exceptional?” Malesela concluded.
Mbule is now expected to be part of the Buccaneers squad that will be leaving for Spain in preparations for a busy season.
