Kaizer Chiefs to land transfer target after Stellies sign Grobler

Stellenbosch FC have secured the services of veteran striker Bradley Grobler, who is set to sign a one-year contract with the Cape Winelands club on a free transfer.

The 38-year-old became a free agent after his contract with Sekhukhune United expired at the end of the previous season.

While there was a chance he might have remained with Babina Noko, the deal did not come to fruition, opening the door for his move to Stellies.

Hunt reunites with Grobler

This transfer will see Grobler reunite with coach Gavin Hunt, under whom the prolific forward previously played at SuperSport United. Hunt’s influence is believed to have been a key factor in persuading Grobler to continue his career in the Western Cape, despite interest from AmaZulu and the logistics of relocating from Gauteng.

Grobler leaves Sekhukhune after two successful seasons where he was the club’s top scorer in both campaigns. He netted 11 goals across all competitions last term, and despite injuries limiting his game time, he still made his mark before being sidelined late in the season. During his time there, Grobler also joined the exclusive group of players who have scored over 100 goals in the PSL era.

How Kaizer Chiefs will benefit

His arrival is part of a significant squad overhaul at Stellenbosch, which has seen several key players depart. This includes Langelihle Phili, who moved to Kaizer Chiefs in a deal that saw Given Msimango and Ashley du Preez return to the Cape.

According to SABC, Grobbler’s arrival is set to accelerate Faiz Abrahams’ departure to Chiefs, where he is reportedly expected to sign a one-year loan deal.

Grobler is expected to join his new teammates this week. However, his match fitness will need to be evaluated as he missed pre-season training following his exit from Sekhukhune. Stellenbosch’s next league fixture is an away match against Polokwane City on Tuesday.
